Chameleon

- folded from a 12" square of two toned foil backed hanji -

Designed in 2003:

The Chameleon came about through creative experimentation. I was working with a base from Montroll's Fox (Animal Enthusiast) and trying to tap into its potential. Intuitively doodling from there, I held up the finished form and called it a chameleon. After a few revisions to the head, I made a rough diagram and haven't returned to this design since. I believe that there are a veil and horn just waiting to be found in the hidden paper of the head, and may go about extracting them in the future... or perhaps you can?

The thickness of this model definately reflects the pulpy flesh of the chameleon. Unfortunately, it also prevents a great deal of posing of the finished form. I like this design because of the conical eyes, striking tongue, appearance of a smile, opposing toes, and heft. The chameleon folded itself through unlocked promise, and in its desire to be revealed, must have felt safe in my hands. It still brings me joy.
